# Roles

> What each person can do. Restoman's roles come ready-made; you create custom roles yourself, with their permissions.

Someone with more than one role gets the permissions of all of them.

**Who can:** the owner, the admins and the accountants see the roles. Only the owner and the admins create, change or delete custom roles.

## Restoman's roles

They come with Restoman, in every business, and can't be changed.

| Role | What it does |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Owner | Everything, including transferring the business. There's only one per business. |
| Admin | Everything except change billing, Mercado Pago and tax details. Only the owner can give it. |
| Accountant | Sees everything and changes nothing. |
| Manager | Runs a location: orders, cash, menu, stock, floor and schedules. Sees the team. |
| Cashier | Takes orders, charges and opens their cash shift. Doesn't issue refunds. |
| Kitchen | Uses the kitchen screen, marks what's sold out and adjusts stock. |
| Waiter | Takes orders and marks what's sold out. |
| Staff | Takes orders and uses the kitchen screen; sees the menu, stock and floor. |

Some of these tasks (orders, cash, kitchen, floor) arrive with Restoman's upcoming screens.

## Create a custom role

For a position no Restoman role covers, for example Bartender. Each business can have up to 20.

1. In **Roles**, tap **Create role**.
2. Enter the **Name**, the one your team sees.
3. Check the **Identifier**: we suggest one from the name, and it can't be changed later. 2 to 32 characters: lowercase letters without accents, numbers and hyphens, starting with a letter.
4. Under **Permissions**, check what whoever has it can do. It's almost always worth including **View**. The permissions come in two groups:
   - **Across the business**: they apply across the whole business.
   - **At the locations where they work**: they apply at the locations assigned to each person, or at all of them if they have access to all.
5. Tap **Create role**.

People, roles, locations and the business's details are handled only by owners and admins: those permissions can't be given in a custom role. And you can only give permissions you have yourself.

## Change or delete a custom role

- **Edit**: change the name or the permissions and save. The changes apply right away for whoever has it.
- **Delete**: confirm with **Delete role**. The pending invitations that give it are canceled. This can't be undone.

Someone who can only view the roles finds **View** instead of **Edit**.

## What each message means

| Message | What happened and what to do |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Before deleting it, change… | Someone still has it. [Change their role](/en/guia/editar-persona) and try again. |
| This business already has a role with that identifier | Try another one. |
| Restoman uses that identifier | Try another one, for example by adding the position. |
| Check at least one permission | A role needs some permission. |
| You can only give permissions you have yourself | Uncheck the ones you don't have, or ask the owner. |
| This business has reached 20 custom roles | Delete one you don't use. |
